This project began as a collection of historic documents which turned out to be not only interesting but historically and culturally significant. The Native American Deeds collection puts us at the threshold of a fascinating story about the last Native American tribe to live here. This research has documented the lost pieces of local history for the period 1600-1700. It allows us to make a crosswalk between the 17th and 21st century Essex County landscape with focus on our Native American heritage.
