Restoration
Project
The records
of this county are the oldest and most complete of any in the
country. Recognizing that the original deed registers represent
an invaluable resource for this and future generations, the
Southern Essex District Registry of Deeds has embarked upon
a restoration project to protect the first 100 deed books (many
dating from the 17th century) from the ravages of time. We have
presently restored 20 books and hope to restore all to a condition
where they may be returned for public viewing.
